sold - a truly mid-century Beni Ouarain rug. This beautiful rug was begun in 1953 and finished in 1955. Stored away between hosting guests, it was well cared for, and is in excellent condition for its age. What i love about this rug is not only that it combines a very classical design with a vibrant color pop in a very tongue-in-cheek manner. The lustre of the Sardi sheep wool is unbelieveable; i try to show this in the last pictures. Finally, i admire the craftwomanship and the planning that went into its construction. Four pile fields are separated by strips of backside pile, so it can be laid out in various sizes and folded away neatly. 290x187cm without fringes. Lozenge pattern is medium gray, charcoal gray and olive gold-green. Selvedge cover knots and a single protection symbol are orange (madder root, possibly double-dyed with saffron). On the back, minor orange color run in some areas, some of it visible in the front only if you know where to look, and look hard. The fields separated by the back-knotted strips are 42cm, 114cm, 76cm, and 62cm. Fringes are approx. 24cm (12 cm each side). Some small areas with low pile, some missing fringes, but all warps have been secured. The rug’s construction is sound. It weighs ca. 11.30kg and has a supple, blanket-like grip. More pictures on request. I'm a rug and textile collector with a passion for Moroccan and Turkish rugs (and others). i sell only rugs that i have acquired because i very much liked them myself. Sometimes i have to pass some on in loving hands some to make space (for others). Please feel free to ask any questions about them you might have!
