noragi kasuri and shibori coat, Japan, Taisho (circa 1920), cm 122x121. a lovely farmer’s coat, made of hand spun, hand woven cotton, nicely thick and toothy in the hand. Main body consists of medium indigo and white kasuri (ikat) cloth, and bottom part has been dyed in dark indigo using the ‘shibori’ or shape resist method. Very good condition with just a tiny hole on the back. a textbook example of a Japanese Country Textile.
