This luxuriant complete set of Khamseh saddle bags or " khorjin " was woven in Southwest Persia using the finest, softest wool available. The colors, all achieved through traditional vegetal dyeing, glisten. The drawing of the two bagfaces is classic using red diamonds with well-spaced geometric ornament emanating from "endless knot" rosette centers. The ornament of the indigo ground is likewise finely executed with a particularly well-rendered curvilinear golden latch-hook variant drawn in each corner. The quality of this piece is further made evident by a finely striped kilim back and wonderfully detailed flat-woven fasteners. Scattered old moth damage.
