This is a rare and unusual boro item. This Japanese furoshiki or wrapping cloth is made of pieces of nobori, which are large banners that are used primarily for festivals or shops. The original banner itself was originally created from two widths of rustic woven cotton and painted with black ink. The furoshiki was later created from two portions of banner hand sewn side by side, for a total of four widths of cotton. The item has sashiko stitching, many mending patches, and a natural warm patina, evidence of the cloth's history and use. There are areas of discoloration, which are visible within the photos. It is a fantastic piece that we are proud to offer. Dimensions: 48 x 51" http://www.orimetextiles.com
