Chinese carpet from one of the old Silk Road oasis towns of Xinjiang province, either Khotan or Yarkand, that has been used as an over-saddle carpet (or ‘masho’ in Tibetan). It features an asymmetric designed pomegranate tree-of-life sprouting out of a singular vase at the bottom of the carpet with leaves and pomegranates higher in the main filed. It was made in the latter part of the 1800’s, has cotton warp and weft and the size is 63cm x 117cm (25in x 46in). Although it is well worn and has very low pile throughout, it has no repairs or reweaves. Please see more photos here https://warpandweft.club/portfolio-item/khotan-item-7/
