a very rare antique Tekke Turkoman silk embroidered white Chyrpy collar. Chyrpy is the cloak worn by Tekke and Saryk tribes of Turkmen women as cloaks over their heads with false sleeves dangling on the back. The ground collar of these textiles reflect the social standing of the women wearing them. The indigo ground examples are more common and worn by all women, the yellow grounded examples are associated with married woman and green examples are often associated with Saryk tribe. But the white Chyrpy is the most coveted and rarest and worn by the established elderly women of the community. White Chyrpies are as rare as unicorns. Even fragments and collars are admired by collectors. This collar boasts magnificent colours all derived from natural dyes. The design is dynamic and more sophisticated than typical ones we see. Likely mid to third quarter of 19th century. In excellent condition. Stitched on a thin black padded fabric ready to be mounted or stretched. Offered at a fair price.
