Two Antique Fragments of a Turkmen / Turkoman Tentband - Tribe?
Two fragments of a large Turkmen tentband. Circa 1900 +/-. Beautiful colors including some aubergine. Wool with white cotton knots. i will let you decide, which tribe made these.
Good fragmentary condition. They have fabric strips with metal rings on the back to hang them. The fragment from the center has a ring missing. End fragment has a cobbled tear in the flat supplementary banding near the end (see photographs.) and a small hole that are backed with fabric and sewn down to secure them. Scattered holes, wear, cobbled repairs, etc. Some blushing of some of the madder colored dyes. Minor knot loss. Some edge and selvage wear. Fragment from the center has been washed. The end fragment has not been washed. It has a spot that has been cleaned on the end. They are still “smoky” and would benefit from more cleaning. The base color can be seen in the spot that was cleaned on the end fragment.
Size: fragment from center: 21-1/4” to 21-3/4” wide x 87'1/2” long; end fragment: 18-3/4” to 20-1/2” wide x 87” long excluding fringe at end, which is about 3/4” long
