Antique Ersari Turkmen Carpet, second half 19th century. Dimensions are 99 inches by 82 inches ( 251 cm x 208 cm) or 8’3” x 6’10”. Unusual main border design—medallions composed of quartered octagons enclosing stepped diamonds with eight-pointed stars at centers. Don’t recall seeing this border on a main carpet before. Main guls have memling gul centers, and some secondary guls are also memling guls. a variety of tertiary devices. Condition---frame complete, with some remnants of kilim at ends, selvages worn but mostly present, Pile varies from good in some areas to low in others—foundation not showing anywhere. One small repair (about 1 x 2 inch) that looks like reknotting rather than re-weaving (shows in last image). Next to last image shows back. Colors are good including a nice green—a wash will make it appear brighter.
