Antique Yomut Turkmen torba with well drawn 'kepse' gul design.
Circa 1890.
Size: 3ft 3in x 1ft 1in (99 x 34cm).
These torba were used to decorate the side of a camel during a Turkmen wedding procession, these were prized possessions and formed part of the wedding dowry. The were kept as heirlooms and displayed inside the yurt. This example features two 'kepse' guls on a soft mahogany brown ground, this design is usually found on main carpets by the Yomut.
The torba is in fair condition with slight wear and good pile, there are some old repairs to the lower central border. The back has been removed at some time during the life of this torba. (The repairs are reflected in the price).
