Antique Ersari Turkmen torba of scarce design, with a variation of the Chodor 'ertum' gul design to the central panel. Torba are shallow wall bags used mainly in tents or yurts for the storage of personal belongings, they were also used to decorate the sides of a camel in a wedding procession. Often only the piled face survives and the plain weave backs have been removed.
Size: 3ft 10in x 1ft 2in (116 x 35cm).
Circa 1880.
The torba is in fair good condition with slight even wear and good pile, the original plain back has been removed at some point in the torba's history. The torba has suffered in the past with some old moth damage (now extinct) and some edge losses, these are reflected in the price.
