Afshar Rug
4’ 6” x 3’ 11”
Published: Tribal Rugs of Southern Persia, James Opie, 1981. Pg. 192 & 193
James Opie wrote: “It is difficult to tell whether the secondary designs in the rug are entirely vegetal forms, or include some highly distorted animal figures. These smaller designs project a feeling of life and movement that must have been intentional. Yet, the piece also gives the feeling of primitiveness through a simplification of designs that presumably appeared in more complex forms in earlier rugs. In its boldness and unaffected primitiveness, it is an appealing piece."
