Antique Caucasian Kuba region Konagkend rug with large cruciform medallion design. Size: 7ft 5in x 4ft 8in (227 x 143cm). Circa 1900/10. a good example of a Konagkend rug with the classic cruciform medallion design; the black medallion contrasts well against the red ground. The design elements found through out this rug can also be found widely used in Caucasian soumak designs from the Kuba region. The rug is in excellent condition with only very slight even wear and full pile, the weave is fine and tight, giving a hard wearing dense surface finish. The rug has no repairs and is in original condition. The rug is suitable for normal domestic use.
