Istanbul bindalli silk velvet bohcha, 19th century. The ground is in a purple violet red cochineal hued silk velvet over embroidered in metallic thread. The embroidery work is of the finest quality in these pieces. There is some wear in small areas of the field as well as around the outer edge of the textile indicating its age. It is bordered by a metallic woven band and the backing is more recently added. 80 x 80 cm
