a superb antique Uzbek Labijar kilim with abundant yellow coloration. This kilim shares many of the characteristics of typical Labijar kilims. However, what appears to be a “standard” kilim with Labijar lozenges becomes a beautiful piece in the hands of this weaver. Through a play of color in the lozenges, the otherwise rigid design is transformed into a kilim full of improvisation, movement, and creativity.
This lovely Labijar flatweave is entirely woven with natural dyes. The dyes have produced beautiful abrash, or color variations, particularly noticeable in the reddish-pink areas.
Material: 100% hand-spun sheep wool
Size: 317×175 cms
Origin: Labijar, Afghanistan
Date of weaving: 1900s
