a Turkmen mail/courier or document bag? dated 1936. The date is inscribed on the bottom of the field above an inscription which reads "Butun jer juzinin proletarlari birleşin" which translates into "All the world proletariat unite". The enclosure flaps are actually plain woven as part of the piece rather than braided. The brocade is cotton and the colors were subjected to fading. This bag was well-used for its purpose of carrying documents perhaps of a special nature. An altogether unusual and unique piece. 38 x 27 cm
