Period: Dated ah 1292 = ad 1875
Origin: Caucasus
Dimensions: 105 x 144 cm
This rare, late 19th century dated Fachralo prayer rug is an extraordinary and monumental masterpiece of Caucasian village art, universally celebrated for its iconic architectural design and deep tribal symbolism. Hand knotted with premium quality, hand spun wool that creates a lush, tactile pile and a wonderfully sturdy handle, this exceptional collector piece showcases a highly sought after, traditional prayer niche layout. Inscribed at the top with its original Islamic calendar date of 1292, which perfectly corresponds to the Gregorian year 1875, this authenticated textile represents a precise historical snapshot of historical Kazak district weaving traditions. The central composition features a stepped mihrab design set against a deeply saturated midnight indigo blue field, masterfully anchored by a prominent, multi layered central medallion executed in a bold madder red core, crisp ivory borders, and geometric latchhooks that radiate a profound ancestral authority.
The highly structured, protective layout is brought to life by a magnificent and deeply resonant palette of pure, organic vegetable dyes. Flanking the central medallion are pairs of ancient, ivory ground double s motifs and stylized tribal amulets, while the lower section of the blue niche opens into a secondary madder red geometric alcove. This entire inner sanctuary floats beautifully within a wide, vibrant madder red outer field that is populated by an alternating sequence of geometric star medallions, each filled with microscopic polychrome details. The exceptional contrast between the glowing reds, deep blues, golden ochre, and pristine white highlights gives every layer of this historic piece an incredible graphic clarity.
Framing this grand visual narrative is a remarkably clean and sophisticated multi border system that lends a strong architectural frame to the active field. The prominent main border features an ivory ground beautifully animated by a continuous, geometric polychrome diamond star pattern, closely flanked by precise reciprocal zig zag and running dog guard stripes that offer a superb structural finish. Exhibiting a wonderfully authentic aged patina, soft natural abrash variations where the organic tones have matured with true painterly grace over more than a century, and an exceptionally well preserved structure, this museum grade rug carries an immense visual presence. Its rare dated heritage, bold geometric symmetry, and powerful color layout make it a spectacular crown jewel for discerning private collectors, textile connoisseurs, or curated modern interior wall displays.
