Antique Uzbek Lakai tribe embroidered felt saddle cover / rug with classic Lakai design.
Size: 4ft 1in x 2ft 6in (124 x 75cm).
Circa 1900-20.
This outstanding saddle rug is by the Lakai tribe of Southern Uzbekistan / Northern Tajikistan, the thick wool felt is embroidered with eight roundel motifs containing ram's-horn style scrolls. The bright use of colour is typical of Lakai work. The design on the reverse in felt is very similar to the koshkar muiz ("ram's horn") ornament found through out Central Asia.
Excellent condition with only very slight even wear. Note how all the edges are over-bound in alternating colours.
Ref: d-1050.
