An exceptional antique Uzbek silk chain-stitched suzani from Shahrisabz. It dates between mid 19th century and early 3rd quarter and it is half of what once was a remarkable mihrab ruijoy suzani. Perhaps it was split in two for inheritance reasons as silk was valued like gold during the 19th century. But regardless it is in a large scale format with bold graphics. It has super fine chain-stitched silk embroidery. The design is outstanding with gorgeous large scale 8 point star gol interspersed with smaller palmettes, botehs and shrubs. The colours are mind blowing and appear all to be of natural dyes. We see shades of blue, indigo, dark green, pistachio, yellow, reds, natural purple, crimson and a salmon that elevate the piece. It is on a beige ground fabric, typical of rural Shahrisabz region. In exceptional condition other than the fact that it is half of a full piece. a masterpiece worthy of top collection. The scale is large in real life with a very powerful visual dazzle. size: 244cm x 84cm (96"x 33")…. ….
