Large Mid Century Tulu Sleeping Carpet Exceptionally decorative, deep pile Tulu sleeping carpet, Karapinar, Turkey circa 1960’s. Hand knotted Angora wool pile with a soft felt backing. 220 x 190 cm (86.6 x 74.8 inches). The striking design of oversized concentric diamonds in pink, green and white is graphic, bold and modern while the rustic weave and generous depth of the pile delivers a bohemian sensibility and bags of comfort and charm. Made for domestic use rather than export, Tulu rugs utilize the long, insulating wool of Angora goats to keep the cold of the Anatolian plateau at bay. This example has a lovely soft felt backing, the only one we’ve seen with this feature, and was originally used as the most luxurious blanket you could imagine. Condition is superb, as new.
