Antique Tekke Turkmen torba of very fine weave, with 'curled leaf' design. Torba are shallow wall bags used mainly in tents or yurts for the storage of personal belongings, they were also used to decorate the sides of a camel in a wedding procession. Often only the piled face survives and the plain weave backs have been removed. Size: 3ft 11in x 1ft 5in (120 x 42cm) face size excluding tassels. Circa 1880. a very good Tekke Turkmen torba face of very fine weave, the design is a good example of the 'curled leaf' on an ivory coloured ground. Note the original long tassels.
