from the estate of an esteemed world traveler from a rancho santa fe, california private collector estate, offering on behalf of the family trust attorney and state of california probate court. we are pleased to offer you this very fine museum quality authentic 17th century turkish ottoman embroidered bohca. appears to be silk embroidered on linen. nearly square, this rare textile measures approx. 28 inches x 29 inches. when we found it in the estate, it was framed under glass. the frame came apart at 1 corner, so we were concerned the glass could break and might damage the textile so we carefully removed the frame and glass. there is a very very similar example online: pictured on a high end oriental rug dealer's website theirs is double the length of this one, which is interesting because i have read bohca are nearly always square in shape. the bohca on the website was initially priced at $18,500 usd. however now it shows it is no longer available. i have reached out to the curator / expert authority of islamic textiles at george washington university, in hopes of placing it in a museum collection. a rare find in this nice of condition indeed! i don't think there's another out there quite like this one for sale...anywhere! condition **appears to be in visual excellent pre-owned condition, from a smoke-free home. i'm sure being framed under glass helped preserve and protect this beautiful historic ottoman treasure (see photos). **the textile appears to be evenly laid down / adhesive adhered to a thin square sheet of paper board, probably not archival. (see photos). **it will require a professional, museum quality conservator to expertly remove the thin paper board and re-mount it on an archival mount properly (see photos). * more photos available if needed.
price:  $5500 OBO
