a Rare Design Patola Rumal, Silk Double Ikat, probably Patan, Gujarat, India.
A fine and rare Silk Double Ikat Patola Rumal from the celebrated weaving tradition of Patan, Gujarat, dating to the late 19th century. This example displays an unusually rare design, seldom encountered in surviving Patola textiles.
The central field is arranged in a rarely repeating pattern, framed by elegant borders of rows of floral motifs, lending the textile both visual harmony and sophistication. The precision of the double ikat technique and the clarity of the design reflect the extraordinary skill of Patola master weavers.
Traditionally, such Patola Rumals were especially associated with Brahmin and Jain communities of Gujarat, where they held both ceremonial and cultural importance.
A scarce and highly collectable example of Gujarat’s iconic textile heritage.
