Antique Tekke Turkmen 9 gul torba / mafrash.
Size: 2ft 10in x 1ft 0in (86 x 30cm).
Circa 1870 or earlier.
This small Tekke Turkmen torba / mafrash is a small bag used for keeping personal belongings in, it was usually hung up inside the tribal yurt. This example is of 9 gul gul design, note the elem panel at the base decorated with small Turkmen trees. The torba is of very fine knotting, note the bowed shape caused by years of use inside a yurt.
The torba is in good condition with slight even wear and good pile, it is complete with the original plain weave back that shows signs of smoke discolouration from hanging inside the yurt. There are slight losses to the top left corner.
A good display item that could be hung on a wall or used on top of a table or chest.
