DESCRIPTION
An exceptional and authentic antique Kilim from the Reyhanli district of Hatay (Southern Turkey), dating back to the early Republic period (circa 1920s).
Structure and Weaving: This piece is a classic example of the "Double Wing" (Two-Panel) tradition. Due to the narrow width of the portable nomadic looms used by the Yoruk/Turkmen tribes of the region, the kilim was woven in two separate long strips and then skillfully joined down the center. The matching of the patterns across the central seam is a testament to the weaver's skill.
Design and Color: The kilim features the characteristic bold geometric aesthetic of Reyhanli weavings. It showcases a rich palette derived from natural dyes, which have matured into a warm, harmonious patina over the last century. The wool is hand-spun, giving the kilim a textured, durable, and floppy handle that collectors look for.
Size: At nearly 3.5 meters (11.4 ft) in length, this is a monumental piece suitable for large gallery spaces, living rooms, or as a significant collector's item representing the South Anatolian weaving culture.
Excellent condition for its age. The pile/weave is generally full. No holes or repairs. The colors are original and have not been chemically washed.
