Kuba Gymyl Rug with Cartouche Border Circa 1895–1910 Size: 135 × 210 cm Wool on wool; symmetrical knot (Turkish) Natural dyes with early synthetic pink (fuchsine) A rare and expressive village weaving from the Kuba region, likely Gymyl or nearby. The deep indigo field features a bold octagonal medallion with angular talismanic hooks. The rug is framed by a striking cartouche border composed of large octagonal medallions with central rosettes—alternating in ivory and red—linked by stylized vines and cross motifs, typical of Kuba and Gymyl-area rugs. a lower field panel includes tribal glyphs or pseudo-script, echoing a dated Gymyl rug from 1902 (Baku Museum, Inv. No. 884). Good condition with light wear and minor pink dye corrosion. Structurally sound, no reweaves. Price: 650 eur plus shipping Location: Vienna, Austria Contact: doc@textfirma.at
