Rugs (Kilims) are much more than mere objects that warm our homes or decorate our floors; they are the thread-woven embodiment of a thousand-year-old cultural heritage and a deep aesthetic understanding. Kilims are an art form because a feeling is hidden in every knot, a meaning in every motif, and the soul of a geography in every color.
Anatolian kilims, in particular, are history books that speak by breaking the silence of their weavers. These masterpieces, brought to life on looms by the diligent hands of women, are a form of autobiography. The ram's horn motif on a kilim symbolizes power and fertility, the 'hands on hips' motif represents maternity/fertility, and the eye motif signifies protection from the evil eye. They do not use a visible language like painting or sculpture; instead, they speak through the universal language of symbols.
