Antique Uzbek Gajeri / Ghudjeri kilim panel with outstanding colour and design.
Circa 1900.
Size: 5ft 2in x 4ft 3in (158 x 130cm).
This is a traditional manner of weaving among the Uzbeks of Central Asia. The designs are "typical" of this type, often referred to as "Gajeri", which refers to the technique of weaving, a brocade type weave with the dyed warps hanging loose on the back and brought to the front when necessary to make the design. This example has very bold graphic design and wonderful natural dye colours throughout. These are often woven in narrow strips and then stitched together. This example may once have been part of a larger item.
Excellent condition, very slight wear. This kilim would make a superb wall hanging or as a cover for the back of a sofa.
