Chinese ‘pillar’ carpet made specifically to go around columns or ‘pillars’ in a Buddhist monastery. Here the golden scaled dragon is depicted chasing the Precious Jewel, with the dragons head and flowing lion-like mane and long whiskers well drawn. Made sometime circa the 1940’s / 1950, the warp and weft are cotton, the colours are quite pleasing, and the size is 220cm x 98cm (approximately 87in x 39in). Of a good manageable size, that is not too long, it would suit either wall or floor display and is in excellent condition with full pile and no repairs or reweaves.
