Antique Afshar Neriz rug of repeat shield design on an ivory ground.
2nd half 19th century..
An interesting and early example of a Afshar Neriz rug with large scale 'shields' on an ivory ground. This design could represent tribal tents or it could have other tribal meaning. The field is filled with tribal design elements such as flowers and animals. The boarders are of typical Afshar floral design.
The rug is in fair original condition with wear, heavy in places and low pile, the ends and sides are a little ragged, this is reflected in the price.
The rug is suitable for light domestic use.
