Ladies Leather Boots, Saka or Wusun Nomads of Central Asia, 5th century bce – 2nd century ce, with raised toecaps, silk embroidery, green glass bead. l. 22 cm; h. 14 cm. These leather boots by design and decoration are very close to the shoes of the nomads of Eurasia in the 4th century bce – 2nd century ce. This type of footwear existed among the nomads of Xinjiang, Altai, and north-western Mongolia. Boots with a similar shape were unearthed in the Astana site near modern Turfan in Xinjiang, dated to an early Tang dynasty.
