Back
a very fine antique silk embroidered Turkoman Turkmen bag attribute to Yomud / Yomut tribes. Dating to the 19th century, this excellent Central Asian embroidery has wonderful workmanship with an archaic design and gorgeous rustic colours. The field design that looks like a cross is actually bird (eagle) claw motifs. While one does see younger and more coarse examples in the market, a piece with such finesse is hard to find. The colours are exceptional. These are often referred to as tobacco pouches but they were very likely coin bags made as a bridal dowry offering for the groom.. In very good condition with silk string draw closure looped on the lip of the bag. The backside continues the design . Email your question. size: 15cm x 8cm (6" x 3").
