a striking antique Uzbek Lakai tribe silk embroidered talismanic ilgich hanging dating to the late 19th century. These bridal embroideries were made as dowry offerings and hung on yurts / tents as symbolic protective symbols. The beauty of the Lakai embroideries are very unique and the motifs and designs were distinct from the other central Asian silk work. This is a visually engaging example with a design that executes classic pin wheel motifs in a free flowing manner that creates a movement to visual experience. The embroidery is a combination of chain stitch and flat stitch on a red ground that seems to be hand spun cotton. It is finished with a navy silk tassels. a good example in good overall shape offered at a reasonable price. size: 50cm x 49cm (20” x 19”).
