a beautiful and elegant antique silk suzani / susani from the 19th century Ura tube region. Suzanis are often attributed to the Uzbek people of Central Asia but these dowry embroideries were made by both Uzbek and Tajik groups who lived side by side in most of the areas that produced these textile arts. The Ura tube ones were often attributed to the Tajik groups. This example is a really old one, dating to around the mid 19th century. It has really fine silk chain-stitch on a gorgeous linen karbos ground. The design is mihrab / arch with intricate floral repertoire with meandering vines and leaves. The colours are all natural dyes with a beautiful soft sheen to them. It has the original lining and a complete piece. The overall condition is fair considering the age. It has some patina and wear to the linen ground in some parts. Some sporadic abrasion of embroidery but nothing dramatic or distracting.
