Back
a superb and very fine antique silk embroidered Turkoman Turkmen bag attribute to Yomud / Yomut tribes. Dating to the 19th century, this excellent Central Asian embroidery has wonderful workmanship with an archaic design and gorgeous rustic colours. The field design is bird (eagle) motifs in flight, while the border patterns represent the waves of wind. While one does see younger and more coarse examples in the market, a piece with such finesse is hard to find. The colours are exceptional. These are often referred to as tobacco pouches but they were very likely coin bags made as a bridal dowry offering for the groom.. In pristine condition.
