This mid 19th-century Turkish Kayseri silk and metal rug measures 4’4” x 6’10”. It has a center medallion with a double Kum Kopu prayer niche at either end completely covered in a floral design with two pair of lions done in aubergine devouring antelope in the four corners of the field. At the peak of the prayer niche at either end are two yellow cheetahs devouring some sort of animal done in aubergine. The background is the color of gold. The reciprocal borders are pretty odd. The interior border is done in metal and silk. The exterior border is done only in silk. These reciprocal borders encompass the major border composed of wild spotted dogs flanking cypress trees done in red. In between the pairs of dogs is a small tree of life motif with two archaically drawn birds above it. This rug is really quite complicated. There are rings sewn on the back of the rug for hanging and i don’t think the rug has ever been on a floor. The ends and sides are complete. The rug is clean and ready to go. https://antiqueorientalrugs.com/product/7296-antique-kayseri-silk-and-me...
