An excellent antique Uzbek Shahrisabz silk embroidered dress collar decoration dating to the 19th century. Shahrisabz region produced some of the most beautiful of all Central Asian embroideries. Their iroqi stitch (not to be confused with iraq) is a form of semi-cross stitched embroidery and they were some of the most sophisticated and intricate textiles, made often into wall hangings, animal coverings and/or robes, belts and garment decorations. This magnificent example would have been attached around the neck and central seems of a dress / chemise. Often these iroqi stitched pieces belonged to garments or decorations of wealthy noble families. The red two-snake woven around each other motif set in elongated hexagons in blue and white against a rich purple ground, is visually dazzling. The work is extremely fine. In mint condition and worthy of any good collection. a beautiful work of textile art offered at a reasonable price. size: 86cm x 9cm.
