Pre-Columbian Paracas culture band depicting 6 feline figures (probably jaguars),Ocucaje style, circa 300-100bc, 4 1/2 x 39 inches (8 x 42 inches mounted). Woven in an uncommon interlacing technique -- most Paracas textiles are patterned by embroidery on a plain weave ground or, less frequently, patterned by color areas created with an interlocking warp and weft technique. Condition: clear losses to some areas visible in the images. Moreover, it seems likely that some of the cat figures now apparently outlined in a light color were originally outlined in red which has been chemically faded in the burial environment. a rare early Paracas example of Pre-Columbian textile art.
