a beautiful antique Tekke Turkoman / Turkmen silk embroidered on silk indigo Chyrpy ( Cherpi / Chirpi / Chyrpi ), dating to third quarter of the 19th Century. The Chyrpy was the quintessential garment of the women of Tekke Turkoman tribes of central asia. They were worn as a cloak over the head with the false sleeves hanging down the back. They were made in various ground colour types. Each colour symbolised the status of the woman who would wear it.. Being the most important garment in her life, the chyrpy would be the last thing she would depart with. This is a beautiful example with graphic design and an early example of the dark Chyrpies based on the light indigo ground colour. On the back we see extravagant archaic floral patterns. The patterns on the sides consists of alternating archaic motifs. The natural dyed colours are gorgeous really bring design. The collar design also is beautiful. It has a beautiful block print lining. It is in a very good shape with some natural age wear to the ground silk in some areas but nothing distracting and the embroidery is very good. .
