a fantastic and rare antique Uzbek silk adras Ikat hanging from Bukhara / Bokhara, dating between mid and early 3rd quarter of the 19th century. This very early example is a silk warp and cotton weft Ikat (a technique associated with older examples of this textile art form). It has an exceptional design made up of bold bud motifs repeating in indigo and a petrol green. This is contrasted with a rich yellow, red and with white highlights. This early design and not a typical one and executed through tie dye technique using six natural dyes . Often ikats with over five colours were considered as some of the most sophisticated examples because of the complexity of tie dye weaving. The use of primary colours and contrast between them is what gives this piece a visual dazzle. It came from an important collection and is in good shape with a gorgeous red Russian cotton lining. . a real top end collectible piece that doesn't come into market often. size: 222cm x 105 (7’3.5” x 3’5”)
