Collection of three 19th century miniature Aymara coca cloths (tari). Used as the platform or “mesa” for ritual purposes, these unassuming miniature taris are actually quite rare. In use they would be the final layer of cloth that ritual objects like carved stone fetishes, coca leaves, tobacco, alcoholic beverages, herbal potions and other ritual materials would be displayed upon as offerings to the spirits. Taris were necessary for various ceremonies like the Animal Increase Rites, divination sessions, house blessings and other important rituals. For some reason it is very unusual to see miniature examples like these - most taris are larger. i have seen only a few miniature examples like these and have collected everyone that i could over the years.. Though they appear insignificant because of their size, they had real value and importance within the Aymara culture. Available as a collection or individually. Sizes: 14 x 12 inches, 13 x 14 inches and 19 x 17 inches.
