i think it is interesting to repost this very old gansu area fragment, it is also all wool foundation but if you look carefully you will recognise some specificity of the knotting although this fragment dates back to the ming era. so this is the fragment as you can see of a monastic bench cover. it is wider than most bench cover we know and it is a quite thick piled weave comparing with the so called ningxia weave. i m not aware of other gansu bench cover especially from that age, and it is possibly the oldest " chinese " bench cover to date...please if you know older one i ll be happy in seing a pic. 213x 75cm
