Karapinar Kilim, woven in a long and narrow format without borders, this white-ground kilim belongs to a renowned group that is well-documented in literature. The white field is divided into four horizontal panels, each dominated by a huge serrated diamond. This powerful device consists of five nested diamonds which form concentric colour rings around a small central motif. Due to its similarity in shape to a particular Turkish pastry, the serrated diamond is also known as the "baklava" motif. Small additional designs have been included in the lateral sections of each panel, and white- or apricot-ground horizontal stripes decorated with vines and stylised flowers divide the panels. Mounted onto canvas. Dimensions:412x155cm, 13,6x5,1ft
