Attractive intact 'throne' back and seat from the Baotou- Suiyuan area - i.e. Inner Mongolia - but in this case, given the colours, in all likelihood woven for an official (as opposed to the clergy). Woven as one completely piled piece; that is no pile-less 'gap' between the upper and lower portion as seen in some throne back carpets sets that remain as ‘intact / one-piece’. Beautiful, lustrous un-dyed white / off-white wool and various lovely shades of blue make for a subtle though very pleasing design. a precious jewel floats above the central medallion in the upper portion, while the main field in both is enclosed first by a border or pearls, and then by a 'single key meander' border. The outer main border consist of trellised flowers and smaller floral-like roundels and / or 'lucky-coin' designs. Made circa the 1930's with cotton warp and weft, size 1.27m x 0.65m (50in x 25.5in). Moderately priced and, although the pile would benefit from a good wash, in very good condition with no repairs of holes.
