Antique Tekke Turkmen rug of fine weave and small square size. www.knightsantiques.co.uk Size:4ft 4in x 4ft 2in (131 x 127cm). Circa 1900. These rugs are considered to be ‘dowry’ weavings used by the Turkmen bride on her wedding day. This example has 3 rows of 5 Tekke guls, the main border is an interesting variation not often seen on these small rugs and more commonly found on larger main carpets. The rug has excellent drawing and colour, the elem panels at the ends are of a striking design. The rug has very fine soft wool with excellent colour.
