An excellent antique Uzbek silk suzani from Nurata dating between mid and early 3rd quarter of 19th century. Boasting a rich floral field design embroidered using fine polychrome silks chain-stitched on a beige cotton Karbos ground. The field design consists of an elegant central medallion made of floral repertoire. Four bouquets stem from the four corners, each different from the other. Smaller shrubs fill the empty spaces. The field is also interesting with a very unique floral design not typical of Nurata designs. The gorgeous colours bring out the design and are all natural dyes. The size of the piece indicates that it is a min-suzani. Often such sized suzanis were much more intricate than the overtly larger examples. But unlike most nim-suzanis made in Nurata, which are simpler than larger examples, this piece is as densely design as a larger pieces. It’s like a miniature version of a larger suzani. The overall condition is good for its age, with some expected natural patina. It has a beautiful Russian print cotton lining. Worthy of any good collection and offered with a fair price. size 156cm x 100 (61.5” x 40”).
