Gorgeous antique Tibetan mat, very rare cut-in-relief pattern (Tib.: buma rimo, “shaped like a mountain”), natural colours, circa 82 by 62 cm, excellent condition (only a few knots have been professionally repiled at edges), circa 1920-30. This is the best buma rimo i have ever come across: the relief is very thick and up to two centimetres high, and lotus leaves and flowers are sculptured to render a three-dimensional image. Also, the green color is very rare in Tibetan rugs, and here it shows a beautiful abrash turning to blue. Altogether, a superb collector’s piece for your own Xmas present.
