Mask, Middle Hills, Nepal. Wood, 9″ (22.8 cm) high by 6″ (15.2 cm). Early 20th century. a Middle Hills mask with several unusual markings: a trisula carved into the forehead, white painted semicircle on left cheek and paint around eyes and mouth, several vertical incised lines on chin and a hole infilled with white paint on each temple. There is one hole carved through in the center of his grinning mouth and another at the top of his forehead, in addition to the normal suspension holes on either side of the face. a softly shiny patina from age.
