Here is a beautiful old Pashtun embroidery hanging or pillow face.
This is a chain stitch embroidery of silk thread on a very old cotton
fabric patchwork fabric back. Probably made in the early 1900's in North-
eastern Afghanistan. These were primarily made by women. This may have
been made as a hanging or cover or possibly a pillow face - it's excelent
condition suggests it was prized and kept stored rather than used. It was
collected back in the 1970's during the days i worked in a rug gallery called
Adraskand in Point Reyes Station, ca. The embroidery measures 24" x 30".
Time for someone else to enjoy the intricate tribal art seen here.
