fragment of an early and very rare east turkestan rug.warps and wefts are all camel hairs as the brown pile also is. it is quite thick but has also a very sof handle, the wool is fantastic.as you can see there are lazy lines visible on the back, the knot is open right.one end shows rest of a narrow kelim end with original tassels.please note also the 3 minor pearl borders. the last picture shows in hali 70 a carpet with a similar design but with cotton warps, which is probably khotan or kashgar. obviously a rare group as it is very difficult to track another examplar, in 25 years i have only seen another rug with exactly the same construction and colors.
