Antique Japanese large jizai "j" hearth hook, carved of a single piece of keyaki (elm) wood, sculptural with faceted angles, beautiful grain and deep patina. The hook was a symbol of a families prosperity and stability and would hang from the ceiling beam to suspend a kettle or pot over a sunken fire pit. 13"H
